Nepali Congress said on Friday party President Sher Bahadur Deuba is committed to one-China policy.

Recently, Deuba had come under fire for allegedly meeting Tibet’s prime minister in exile Lobsang Sangay while taking part in a programme of the India Foundation in Goa. Deuba denied meeting the Tibetan leader. Nonetheless, Sangay also appears to have attended the event as pictures made public on Thursday suggest the same.

In a press release, NC Chief Secretary Krishnaprasad Poudel said Deuba had not met Dalai Lama’s representative at the event. Deuba delivered his speech in the capacity of the chief guest and then left the event, the release states, adding: He does not know who all were the participants, he knows nothing about the seating arrangements either.

Despite this, there were reports that he interacted with Sangay, the release adds, describing the same as unfortunate.

The release further states: No one needs to teach the Congress party and party President about one-China policy. We believe in one-China policy. The Congress is committed to the Principle of Panchasheel.
