Janakpurdham, January 26

Cadres of the CK Raut-led Janamat Party had staged demonstrations and resorted to vandalism in Janakpur, the capital of the Madhes province, targeting the National Assembly elections being held in all provinces of the country on Wednesday.

As the protesting cadres vandalised his car, Ganesh Prasain, the mayor of the Hariwan municipality in the Sarlahi district, has sustained an injury. Prasain, along with his deputy Renuka Paudel, was on his way to the voting centre when the demonstrators stopped him and broke the windscreen of the vehicle.

In the attack, the mayor received a cut at his temple.

Janakpur is tense since early morning today. When the CK Raut’s party cadres tried to enter the voting centre, police had dispersed them using lathis and tear gas shells. Since then, several minor clashes have ensued.

For the past few weeks, the Janamt Party has been staging protests in various southern districts demanding fertilisers and other facilities for the farmers easily.
