Dr CK Raut has been re-elected chair of the Janamat Party.
Raut was elected chair with 958 votes in the election held during the party’s general convention in Birgunj.
A total of 99 candidates contested 26 office-bearer positions. Although Raut was the only candidate for the chairperson’s post, party members also voted for him because the party statute requires a candidate to secure at least 20 per cent of the total valid votes to be elected.
Anitakumari Mandal of Siraha, Anitadevi Sah of Dhanusha, Narendra Prasad Chaudhary of Kapilvastu, Basant Kumar Kushwaha of Rautahat, Dr Jayakant Raut of Saptari, Rajay Kumar Yadav of Siraha and Madhav Prasad Singh of Parsa were elected vice-chairs.
Eleven candidates had contested for the seven vice-chair positions. Parmeshwar Murmu, Harpal Singh Sodi, Manohara Devi Baitha and Roshan Khatun were defeated.
Sanjay Kumar Yadav elected general secretary
Sanjay Kumar Yadav of Siraha was elected general secretary with 618 votes.
Mamata Jha and Chandan Kumar Singh had also contested for the post. Jha received 220 votes and Singh 165 votes. According to the Janamat Party, they failed to cross the 20 per cent threshold.
Nirmal Kumar Mandal of Siraha was elected deputy general secretary with 501 votes. His rival Lalit Chandra Mallik received 414 votes.
Surendra Sharma, Paras Prasad Sah, Santosh Raj Sahani, Anjani Devi, Radhakumari Yadav, Harendra Chaudhary and Bal Govinda Chaudhary were elected secretaries.
Nine candidates had contested for seven secretary positions. Birendra Mahato (Jeevan Tyagi) and Rambabu Sah were defeated.
