Chitwan, May 10
A young man serving a jail sentence in the prison of Area Police Office in Ratnanagar of Chitwan district was found in a critical condition after a reported suicide attempt.
Police informed that Sameer Ghising, 24, of Kalika Municipality-1, Suryapur was found hanging in the restroom of the prison on Thursday.
Critically injured Ghising was rushed to Bharatpur Hospital for treatment, police shared. He is now being treated at Old Medical College under life support.
Meanwhile, Ghising’s relatives along with locals vandalised the police office in protest and obstructed vehicular movement along the East-West Highway.
In order to take the situation under control, police opened five to seven fires in the sky and also lobbed tear gas shells, informed Spokesperson of District Police Office, DSP Durga Raj Regmi.
Police used force to bring back the highway operation to normalcy.
Police also arrested over 15 people allegedly involved in vandalism.
Ghising was arrested on charge of theft on May 8.
