The Chairperson of Thawang Rural Municipality in Rolpa district, Bir Bahadur Gharti, has been abducted from his in-laws’ house in the wee hours of Friday, police say.
DSP Birendra Thapa of the District Police Office says he was abducted from his in-laws’ house in Thawang-2 at around 2 am today.
He is a local leader of the CPN-Maoist Centre party.
It has been suspected that Thapa was abducted so as to affect preparations for attendance of CPN-Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal at the Rural Municipal Council meeting to be organised on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Thapa says police have launched a search operation.
