Chief Justice Om Prakash Mishra, who is a the end of his tenure, will not hear cases from Thursday.
According to Supreme Court spokesperson Kishor Poudel, Mishra who will retire next week, will not sit on any bench either.
Mishra, who was appointed Chief Justice four months ago after the Parliamentary Hearing Committee rejected Justice Deepak Raj Joshee’s nomination to the post, wants to avoid criticism, sources say. Even though he will not hear any cases, he will continue to assign cases to other justices.
Recently, Mishra has been accused of hearing related to corruption, government revenue and tax evasion in a rush. The Constitutional Council has recommended Cholendra Shumsher Rana to succeed Mishra. Rana’s appointment process has started with the Parliamentary Hearing Committee seeking complaints from the public against him. The committee has already received nine complaints against Rana.
