Kathmandu, January 8
The main opposition CPN-UML has described the Prachanda government’s act of presenting the Constitution Amendment Bill in the Parliament, despite opposition parties’ protest, as an act against parliamentary practice.
The party said it will make sure that the Bill fails. After the recent Supreme Court ruling, the Parliament meeting resumed on Sunday, ending protracted obstructions. The meeting decided to forward the impeachment motion filed against suspended CIAA Chief Commissioner Lok Man Singh Karki to the Impeachment Recommendation Committee.
The government also presented two Election Bills in the House.
Despite protests and sloganeering from opposition parties, the government presented the Amendment Bill in the Parliament.
Bamdev Gautam, UML Vice-chair, pointed that nowhere else in the world a government tables a proposal despite protest from opposition parties. He said the government has acted against parliamentary practice by tabling the Bill despite their protest.
This is an act of government highhandedness, he said.
Asked what they will do next, Gautam said they will adopt a strategy to make sure that the Bill fails.
