Biratnagar, June 9

Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav has clarified that the Commission cannot give a new election symbol to the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal, formed after merger of six Madhesh-centric parties, for June 28 polls.

Speaking with journalists in Biratnagar of Morang district today, he said the umbrella, which the party has demanded as the election symbol, cannot be used in the second phase of local level elections as ballot papers have already been printed.

On the other hand, the RJPN is yet to apply for registration with the Election Commission, he informed.

In another context, the chief of constitutional election body said the polls scheduled for June 28 would not be rescheduled now under any condition.

He also commented that the incident of tearing ballot papers in Bharatpur Metropolitan City of Chitwan district was a crime.

Yadav was of the view that candidates, their representatives and political parties should be cautious not to repeat such incidents in the future.
