Various border points connecting to India and China have been sealed on Monday for security in local level elections in provinces 1, 5 and 7 scheduled for Wednesday.

“After analysing security threats in both India and China,” spokesperson at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Deepak Kafle, says, “We have sealed the border points.”

Whereas some borders have been sealed for 48 hours, more sensitive ones have been closed for 72 hours, according to Kafle.

“Local police and administration have coordinated with their Indian or Chinese counterparts to make decisions about the closure,” Kadle adds.

Border points in the districts which do not hold the polls on Wednesday, however, will not be closed.

Meanwhile, officials of Nepal and India have agreed to adopt special security provisions so as to avoid any criminal incident before, during and after the elections.
