Biratnagar: Lawmaker’s car hits pedestrian to death

A lawmaker’s car hits two people, in Biratnagar, on Thursday, June 3, 2021. One of them died later.

A car belonging to a member of the Province 1 Provincial Assembly, Bindiya Karki, has fatally hit a pedestrian in the provincial capital, Biratnagar, on Thursday evening.

The car (Province 3-01-002 Cha 2139) belonging to the Nepali Congress leader had hit Indian citizen, Mukesh Sharma, 35, along the Airport Road, in Biratnagar. Seriously injured in the accident, Sharma was taken to the Koshi Hospital, but the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Lawmaker Karki, however, was not in the car during the accident. Her son, Robin, would use the car to transport the bodies of Covid-19 victims of late. But, Robin was also not in the car yesterday.

Witnesses say there were four other persons in the car, but they have not been identified yet as they ran away after the incident.

Meanwhile, another person also sustained injuries in the incident. Raj Kumar Rajbanshi, 27, a resident of Katahari rural municipality-2 of the Morang district, is undergoing treatment at Nobel Medical College. Both Sharma and Rajbandhi are staff of the New Everest Furniture, located in Biratnagar-4.

Further investigation is underway. Police have launched a manhunt to nab the suspects.
