Biplav Maoist cadres detained with explosives from Rautahat

Explosives seized from cadres of Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’-led CPN Maoist, in Rautahat, on Wednesday, June 7, 2017.

Rautahat, June 8

Police in Chandrapur of Rautahat district on Wednesday night arrested two cadres of the CPN Maoist led by Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’ in possession of various explosive materials.

Dilip Thapa and Tara Thapa, permanent residents of Aanpgachhi in Jhapa district, were arrested from a roof of local Hotel Sudarshan, chief of the District Police Office, SP Yagya Binod Pokharel, said.

It has been learned that the duo had arrived in Chandranigahapur from Hetaunda last night.

Police also seized four mobile phones and a motorcycle from their possession.

Meanwhile, police say the Maoist outfit is increasing its activities in northern belt of the district in a bid to foil the local level elections scheduled for June 28.

The Maoist cadres had torched an excavator in the district on Saturday.

“Our preliminary surmise is that the explosives were brought targeting the elections,” Pokharel says, “Now, police need to be more cautious.”

Police say more personnel will be mobilised to combat the challenges.
