Kathmandu, August 10
The 15th foreign ministers’ meeting of the Bay of Bengal Initiatives for Multi-sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation is beginning in Kathmandu on Thursday.
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba will inaugurate the two-day meeting later this evening.
For the meeting, ministers of India, Sri Lanka, Bangaldesh and Bhutan respectively: Sushma Swaraj, Ravi Karunanayake, Abdul Hassan Mohmood Ali and Damcho Dorji are scheduled to arrive here this afternoon.
Likewise, assistant ministers U Kyaaw Tin from Myanmar and Virasakdi Futrakul from Thailand will also arrive today.
Meanwhile, senior officials’ meeting is underway in Kathmandu to finalise agendas for the ministers’ meeting.
The meeting is most likely to discuss agendas of the 14th meeting including trade, investment, transportation and communications, energy, tourism, agriculture, counter-terrorism, poverty alleviation, public health, environment, natural disasters and climate change.
The ministerial meeting will conclude tomorrow.
Nepal is chairing the seven-member regional body since 2014.
