Bharatpur yet to start counting owing to Renu Dahal’s claim over votes for Congress

Renu Dahal, CPN-Maoist Centre candidate in Bharatpur Metropolitan City in Chitwan

Chitwan, May 15

Counting of votes is yet to begin in Bharatpur Metropolitan City of Chitwan district yet as the CPN-Maoist Centre’s mayoral candidate Renu Dahal demanded that votes cast for the mayoral candidate of Nepali Congress also be counted as votes for her.

The two ruling parties had formed an alliance for the polls, and subsequently the NC candidate had withdrawn the candidacy, but his election symbol was intact in the ballot paper.

Other parties, the main opposition CPN-UML in particular, have been rejecting Dahal’s proposal. Therefore, the counting is yet to begin.

The NC was silent in discussions over the issue.

Election officials held rounds of meeting with candidates and their representatives, but to no avail.

Dahal, however, refuted the charge and accused election officials for the delay.

Of total 150,641 voters, 112,741 had cast their vote yesterday.
