Be serious about agreements, save Dr KC’s life: NHRC tells govt

Dr Govinda KC

Kathmandu, January 22

The constitutional human rights watchdog, National Human Rights Commission, has told the government to make maximum efforts to save the life of medical education reform activist Dr Govinda KC, who has been staging a fast-unto-death for past 14 days.

The Commission has also urged the government to be serious about the agreements the government signed with the activist earlier.

The Commission’s spokesperson Bed Prasad Bhattarai issued a statement on Tuesday afternoon after an NHRC team visited Dr KC at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospitla and requested the both sides to seek solutions through dialogues.

The Commission has also appealed to the all stakeholders to be serious about health issues as it is a fundamental right of all citizens.

Demanding that the government correct the National Medical Education Bill as per agreements signed with him earlier, the senior orthopaetic surgeon had started the indefinite hunger strike, the 16th in past few years, two weeks ago.
