Butwal, February 14

A one-year-old girl drowned in a water pit made for a brick kiln at Munijar Puruwa, Janaki rural municipality-4 of the Banke district in southwestern Nepal recently.

The victim has been identified as local Sabina Sah, the daughter of Jahid Sah, a worker at the local Chand Brick Industry. The brick company had made the pit for brick production.

The Provincial Police Office in Dang says further investigation is underway.

Of late, children drowning has become a regular affair in Nepal due to the lack of safety measures, insufficient recognition of the problem, and children’s inability to swim among other reasons.
