Ban on stages and musical events during Holi

Kathmandu, February 27

The District Administration Office, Kathmandu, has banned the construction of stages for musical programs and the organisation of fairs and festivals during this year’s Holi celebration.

Assistant Chief District Officer Muktiram Rijal informed that the decision was also taken in view of election security concerns.

In a notice issued by the office, it stated: “All concerned are requested not to organise gatherings in open streets and public places, hold fairs and festivals, construct stages for musical programs, sell or consume alcoholic beverages, or engage in activities that are contrary to the election code of conduct.”

The administration has tightened measures amid concerns that the Holi festival could be misused as a platform for election campaigning.

It has also reminded the public that wearing or carrying items bearing election symbols or flags, including logos or stickers, clothes, caps, vests, T-shirts, jackets, shirts, scarves, badges, masks, lockets, or bags, is prohibited. The use of clothing such as vests, T-shirts, shirts, and scarves printed with election symbols or candidates’ photos has been completely banned during the Holi festival.

To maintain the dignity of the festival, the administration has also prohibited applying colours or throwing water balloons at anyone against their will.
