Bajaj has unveiled its most powerful bike, the Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z. The 400cc bike shares the same engine as the Dominar 400. Even though they share the same engine, the NS400Z falls under the Pulsar lineup which is the naked-styled bike whereas the Dominar 400 falls under the Dominar lineup which is a mix of naked bike and cruiser-styled bike making it a suitable long tourer.
With Bajaj developing a new engine, it would surely be seen in other bike lineups sooner or later. It is not the first time we have seen Bajaj use the same engine in a motorcycle. Like the Bajaj Puslar NS200 and the Bajaj Pulsar RS200. The same engine might be seen in the expected sports-oriented RS version.
The Bajaj Pulsar will compete against other 400cc naked sports bikes in the segment like the KTM Duke 390, Husqvarna Svartpilen and Vitpilen 401, Yamaha MT-03, BMW G 310 R, Benelli 302S and the TVS Apache RTR 310. Even though it is competing in the same segment, the bike stands as the most affordable 400cc bike.
The bike can also be expected soon in the Nepali market with the growing demand for middle-weight naked sports bikes.

Design
The Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z carries the NS legacy with some significant modern changes. The overall design is aggressive with a new design at the front which is inspired by fighter jets. The front has an LED setup with the signature Z-shaped LED DRLs which give the bike a distinctive look. In the middle of the DRLs is the projector headlamp which has a nice throw. The LED indicators are situated just above the headlamp section. The golden suspension and the graphics on the mudguard complement the front design.
Coming to the sides, the NS400Z features the same fuel tank as the NS200 but a new side fairing with air vents allowing for airflow to cool the engine. The side fairing is slightly extended to the front for a more muscular look. The split seats are comfortable for both the rider and pillion giving cushioning for longer rides. The exhaust, on the other hand, is the same as the NS200, which is an underbelly exhaust and has a bassy note.
The rear of the Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z is identical to the Bajaj Pulsar NS200 and the NS160 with the split grab handles and the taillamp section. The split LED taillights and the LED indicators are similar continuing the signature Pulsar NS design language.
The NS400Z gets a new instrument cluster which has Bonded glass with colour LCD, Dot matrix, Bluetooth connectivity and TBT Navigation features. The left side displays normal information such as speed, gear, rpm, distance travelled, fuel gauge, modes and side stand cut off.
The multi-info display on the right side is a square-shaped LCD which has information and features for music, call, trip meter, Bluetooth, settings, favourites and ride modes. The multi-info display can be controlled using the buttons on the left side of the handle bar.
Performance
The Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z is equipped with a liquid-cooled engine featuring 4 valves and a double overhead camshaft design with DLC-coated finger followers. It has a displacement of 373.27 cc which delivers a maximum power output of 40 PS at 8800 rpm and a peak torque of 35 Nm at 6500 rpm. Its transmission comprises six gears for smooth shifting during rides.
To adapt to the various road conditions, the Pulsar NS400Z offers four ride modes: Road, Rain, Sport, and Offroad. An assist and slipper clutch streamlines gear changes and prevents rear wheel lock during aggressive downshifts.
In terms of suspension and braking, the Pulsar NS400Z is equipped with a 43 mm upside-down front fork and a rear mono-shock with Nitrox technology, which offers six-step adjustability for stability and comfort, on rough and bumpy roads. Additionally, the bike features a front disc brake measuring 320mm and a rear disc brake measuring 230mm. The brakes are supported with two-channel ABS for further safety and braking power. It has tubeless tyres sized 110/70 – 17 at the front and 140/70 – 17 at the rear which offers good grip and maneuverability on various road surfaces.
