The popular naked motorcycle from Yamaha, the Yamaha MT-15 V2 is finally here in Nepal. The MT-V2 has been one of the most sought-after naked motorcycles in Nepal after the success of the MT-15 BS4 and MT-15 BS6. The previous two generations; the BS4 and the BS6 V1 have been well-received by the Nepali market.

The V2 was launched in 2022 in India and was expected to launch the same year here in Nepal as well. However, it has taken two more years for the V2 to be official in Nepal. The V2 has significant upgrades over the V1 BS6 such as an Aluminium Swing Arm, Upside Down USD Forks, Traction Control System and VVA technology.

The body design is the same as the older generations with the unique MT-15 naked sports styling with new graphics. With some major upgrades and new colours, let us see what the naked sports bike delivers in terms of specs.

Design

The Yamaha MT-15 V2 has the same dimensions as the previous MT-15 BS6 with a slightly increased kerb weight. The design is the same as the previous with the major changes in the graphics. The graphics on the fuel tank and body panels make the bike more aggressive and sporty. The front features a Bi-Functional LED Headlight which is matched with the iconic Twin-LED DRLs known as the predator eyes. The halogen indicators have now been upgraded to LED. The Cyan Storm colour option has a body blue colour on the predator’s eyes whereas the Ice Fuo Vermillion and Metallic Black colour options have a black colour finish.

The Upside-down USD forks on the front make the MT-15 V2 look big and aggressive. The seats are the same with major complaint on the size of the pillion seat. The bike’s rear features an LED taillight slightly raised and complemented with LED indicators. The fuel tank has a 10-litre capacity.

Another major change on the MT-15 V2 is the aluminium swingarm which gives better handling with reduced weight. The instrument cluster is also changed with the shared negative LCD instrument cluster with Yamaha Connect. It displays normal information like speed, odometer, RPM, gear indicator, fuel meter, average fuel consumption, trip meter and connectivity features like call, phone battery status, SMS and email and app connectivity status.

Performance

The Yamaha MT-15 V2 is equipped with a 155 cc, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke engine, delivering a peak power of 18.4 Ps at 10,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 14.1 Nm at 7,500 rpm. The engine ensures strong acceleration and responsive performance, making it suitable for both city rides and highway cruising. The engine is shared with its sibling sports bike, the Yamaha R15 V4.

The MT-15 V2 features a 6-speed constant mesh transmission, allowing for smooth gear shifts across various speeds. The Deltabox frame provides a sturdy structure, contributing to better stability and precise handling. The frame is paired with the telescopic upside-down front fork and rear monocross suspension which enhances ride comfort and control.

The braking performance is reliable with the disc brakes on both the front and rear with 282 mm and 220 mm size respectively. The disc brakes are supported by dual-channel ABS for further safety. The bike features a 100/80-R17 tubeless front and 140/70-R17 tubeless rear tyre offering excellent grip and stability.
