The popular Austrian motorbike company KTM have released its well-admired naked sports bike; the 2024 model of the KTM 390 Duke. The bike has been upgraded and redesigned in an entirely new way with a new engine, frame, display and wheels.

Ever since the agreement between KTM and Bajaj, these naked sports bikes have become widely popular in South Asian countries with lower engine capacity bikes such as the KTM 125 Duke, KTM 200 Duke, KTM 250 Duke and KTM 390 Duke in the naked sports segment and the KTM RC 200 and the KTM RC 390 in the sports segment. The 2024 KTM Duke lineup consists of the 125, 250 and the 390. Here we are going to talk about the 2024 KTM 390 Duke. Let us see the specs.

Design and build

The 2024 KTM 390 Duke has been completely redesigned with a new frame and elements. The paint on the bike is multilayered wet painted plastics with overcoated graphics meaning the graphics are under the paint and not on the paint. The bike is available in two colours; electric orange and Atlantic blue. The orange colour is what KTM is famous for whereas the Atlantic blue colour option is also good.

The LED DRLs are now more aggressive with a curved boomerang-shaped design. The LED headlight also has a changed design with the taillight being much more aggressive.

The seat is now height adjustable along with scaley patterns with details. The pattern from the seat continues to the inner spoiler.

The tank spoiler on the 390 Duke is made up of metal and is now longer, wider and much more aggressive. The tank spoiler now has visible air intakes adding the practical aerodynamic structure along with an interesting look.

In terms of build the 390 Duke’s frame has been completely redesigned. The main frame is composed of an all-new steel trellis and a sub-frame made up of pressure die-cast aluminium.

The rear shock absorber is now mounted off-centre to the side. This has allowed KTM to fit a larger airbox while reducing seat height and adding to the aggressive stance. This also helps in riding comfort and stability.

The swingarm on the 2024 KTM 390 Duke is also new. The new curved pivot aluminium swingarm provides a much more sturdy and durable platform.

There is also a new 5-inch TFT display which it shares with its older brothers. The new TFT display has a bunch of features and ride modes such as street rain and tack. It also has launch control helping you to get a head start from the line. There is also a traction control setup for a better tack-focused performance.

The wheels now have fewer spokes and a different shape than the older 390 Duke. The inner part is also hollow which has helped reduce its weight. It is now around 3.5kg lighter than the older Duke. The brake callipers and the disc brake are also redesigned. The disc brakes do not have an inner ring. It also stays on the right side than the typical left side. The brake and clutch levers are now adjustable according to your preference.

Performance

The 2024 KTM 390 Duke is a powerful motorbike with a new engine. It’s equipped with a 1-cylinder, 4-stroke engine that has a displacement of 398.7 cc. This engine delivers 33 kW of maximum power at 9,000 rpm and 39 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. The engine is the new generation of the lightweight single-cylinder called the LC4c, where the C stands for compact. The stroke is also longer by 64mm and is Euro5+ compatibility emission standards.

Managing the power is a 6-speed transmission that allows for smooth gear changes. The bike starts using an electric starter, and the clutch system (PASC™ antihopping clutch) for smooth downshifting.

The KTM 390 Duke’s suspension consists of a WP APEX 43 front fork and a WP APEX Monoshock at the rear.

For braking, the 390 Duke features a Bosch 9.3 MP Two Channel Supermoto ABS system. The front brake uses a four-piston radial fixed calliper and a brake disc for strong stopping power, while the rear brake uses a 2-piston floating calliper.

The 390 Duke has 17-inch alloy wheels with grippy tires – 110/70 R17 at the front and 150/60 R17 at the rear.

The 2024 KTM 390 Duke is a great motorcycle with a powerful engine, agile handling, and stylish design. The bike has mixed opinions on the looks. Some say it is great with the new look whereas some fans are not happy with the edgy and somewhat incomplete design. The power figure and the rest of the specs are great and a great choice for someone who is willing to upgrade for power.
