Agriculture University students protest fee hike

Students protest outside the Agriculture and Forestry University in Chitwan

Chitwan, December 6

Students of Agriculture and Forestry University in Chitwan have protested the university’s recent decision to hike an entrance examination fee. The university’s Agriculture Faculty had recently decided to collect Rs 5,000 from each student applying for the B SC Agriculture programme.

The students view that the fee is excessive and it will bar many interested students from education. Hence, led by various student unions, they staged a demonstration outside the university’s central office and demanded that the institution withdraw its decision at the earliest.

They have also padlocked the office of the dean of the faculty. The students warn that they will resort to a sterner form of protest if the demand was not heeded.

Just a few days ago, the university had opened admission for the programme at its central campus in Rampur, Chitwan, seven constituent and seven affiliated colleges.
