Doctors across Nepal on strike against the government decision to make them liable for any loss their negligence causes to patients during medical treatments, have called off the protest on Friday.
The doctors, who went on an indefinite strike from Friday, agreed to return to work after Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba made a written commitment to guarantee security for health workers.
Nepal Medical Association chief Muktiram Shrestha said the strike was called off after the government agreed to revoke its decision to hold doctors liable.
Nepal Medical Association had called the strike, forcing patients visiting hospitals, nursing homes and clinics to return home empty-handed.
The Association had earlier also served a three-day ultimatum to the government calling to withdraw the decision. After the government did not heed their demand, the umbrella organisation of Nepali medical doctors resorted to the protests.
