Kathmandu, December 18

The Airports Council International (ACI) World is grading Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu soon, according to the government.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal says it had written to the ACI World and the international organisation has also responded to the request. The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has also been informed about the grading plan.

The authority hopes that the ACI World’s grading of the sole international airport of the country would push for reforms in the airport management. The ministry had also planned to internationally grade the airport in the current fiscal year.

The ACI World claims itself to be the only global trade representative of the world’s airports. Established in 1991, ACI represents airports interests with governments and international organisations such as ICAO, develops standards, policies and recommended practices for airports, and provides information and training opportunities to raise standards around the world.
