Five teenage boys have run away from a juvenile detention centre in Bhairahawa in the Rupandehi district of Lumbini.

The delinquents–three from Nawalparasi, and one each from Rupandehi and Kapilvastu–ran away by breaking the grille of the kitchen window at around 3 am today, according to the centre. Three of them were convicted of rape, one of theft and one of drug addiction.

District Police Office spokesperson Shyam Aryal says his office has launched a manhunt to nab the absconders.

The juvenile detention centre in Bhairahawa has a capacity of 60 people, but there were 88 inmates.
