Kathmandu, September 27
One person has died, and three others are missing after landslides buried houses at separate locations in Palpa district.
Seventy-five-year-old Sher Bahadur Chidi was injured after a landslide buried his house in Rupse of Mathagadhi Rural Municipality-2 on Saturday night. He was rescued and taken to a health post for treatment, where doctors declared him dead, according to ward chairperson Bom Bahadur Thada Magar.
Chidi’s wife survived the incident as she had gone outside to use the toilet when the landslide struck, he said.
Meanwhile, continuous rainfall triggered a landslide that buried two houses in Bhaisakatta of Mathagadhi Rural Municipality-3. Police said three people are missing after the landslide buried a house.
The landslide struck the house of Lil Bahadur Gharti Magar at around 4:30 am on Sunday.
According to police, 75-year-old Lil Bahadur Gharti Magar, his 17-year-old daughter Dina Gharti Magar, and 15-year-old Jharana Gharti, the daughter of their neighbour Motilal Gharti, are missing.
Ward Chairperson Tej Bahadur Gharti Magar said local representatives, the Nepali Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police personnel have reached the site to carry out rescue operations.
Mathagadhi Rural Municipality Chairperson Yam Bahadur Chidi said the rescue operation could take time due to the large size of the landslide.
