Flood survivors struggle to rebuild their lives (Photos)

Nuwakot, September 13

The devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River on August 26 caused extensive destruction along the riverbanks in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading.

Thousands of people remain missing, while the bodies of more than 1,300 people have been recovered. Thousands of families have also been displaced.

Settlements around the river in Rasuwa, particularly Rasuwagadhi, Timure and Khalte, were devastated. In Nuwakot, settlements including Trishuli Bazaar, Betrawati and Devighat were badly damaged. Riverbank settlements along the Trishuli in Dhading, extending as far as Galchhi, also suffered extensive damage.

The government has introduced various relief packages for displaced people and has also begun rehabilitation efforts.

Meanwhile, residents of the flood-affected areas are struggling to rebuild their lives. During a visit to the market areas of Trishuli, Betravati and Devighat in Nuwakot on Saturday, locals were seen sifting through the rubble.

With heavy hearts, they were slowly trying to recover what remained of their homes and livelihoods.
