A grocery store has been fined Rs 300,000 for selling cooking gas (LPG) at a price higher than the government-fixed rate.
The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection said Anil Kirana Pasal in Chakadol, Kageshwari Manohara Municipality-6, was found selling gas to consumers at an inflated price on Thursday.
According to Anil Kirati, information officer at the department, the shop was found selling Sugam gas at Rs 2,600 per cylinder, in violation of the government-fixed price.
The government-fixed price of a cylinder of gas is Rs 2,060.
Kirati said the grocery store was immediately fined Rs 300,000 under the Consumer Protection Act, 2018 and the Consumer Protection Regulations, 2019, after direct evidence of consumer fraud was found.
