World sports community sends solidarity after devastating Nepal floods

Kathmandu, August 28

After the catastrophic flood on the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa caused massive loss of life and property across several districts of Nepal, the global sports community has expressed its solidarity.

From leading European football clubs to IPL franchises in India and international sporting bodies, organisations have shared messages of sympathy for Nepal’s flood-affected citizens on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.

Spanish La Liga champions FC Barcelona posted on their official X account, paying tribute to everyone involved in rescue and relief efforts and expressing solidarity with the Nepali people during this difficult time. A moment of silence was also observed before Barcelona’s match against Athletic Club.

Fellow Spanish club Atlético Madrid also shared condolences on X, expressing deep sorrow for families affected by the floods. The club’s message included the phrase “Stay strong, Nepal,” wishing strength and courage to affected communities.

Indian IPL clubs have shown similar concern. Rajasthan Royals posted sympathy messages on both X and Instagram, while Chennai Super Kings said they were saddened by the loss of life and property and issued their own message of support.

Kolkata Knight Riders expressed condolences to affected families on X and saluted security personnel involved in rescue and relief work. Sunrisers Hyderabad also wished for the safety of affected citizens and voiced solidarity with Nepal.

Beyond football and cricket clubs, various athletes and sporting organisations worldwide have also shared messages of prayer and support for Nepal on X.

The Bhotekoshi flood has caused widespread destruction along the banks of the Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, and Trishuli river areas, with confirmed reports of hundreds of deaths and a large number of people still missing.
