Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) has stated that he has now entered party politics and has urged Gen Z leaders to collaborate with him.
He made these remarks during a discussion on Thursday at the residence of his associate Kumar Ben in Jawagal, Lalitpur. Speaking briefly with a team of Gen Z leaders led by Rakhsa Bam, Mayor Shah conveyed his message of cooperation.
According to Gen Z leader Yujanraj Bhandari, Mayor Shah also urged all Gen Z members to unite.
“I have entered party politics. Now let’s collaborate. All Gen Z members should unite and come forward,” Bhandari said, quoting Mayor Shah.
Mayor Shah has been continuously engaging in political dialogues. Earlier today, he held discussions with RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane, other party leaders, and outgoing members of parliament.
Former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai also visited to meet Mayor Balen.
Reportedly, Mayor Shah, Energy Minister Kulman Ghising, and RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane are scheduled to meet again today.
On Thursday afternoon, Balen and Lamichhane held a meeting that lasted about two and a half hours, during which they discussed the potential process of political unity.
For this purpose, Lamichhane proposed a flexible arrangement regarding the party name, election symbol, and candidate ratios. According to sources, he brought a non-paper printout to the meeting with Balen, detailing matters such as the percentage of candidates.
Lamichhane suggested that since there are already enough aspirants within RSP, a proportional candidate list should be prepared in a 70–30 ratio. He also proposed that the ratio could be adjusted slightly after consulting with his party colleagues.
