Kathmandu, December 19
Half a dozen airports remained closed until the afternoon on Friday due to adverse weather conditions.
According to the Civil Aviation Office at Tribhuvan International Airport, no flights could operate today at Janakpur, Simara, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj, and Dhangadhi airports.
With nearly half a dozen airports shut simultaneously due to unfavourable weather, hundreds of passengers have been stranded. Passengers who arrived at Tribhuvan International Airport on schedule to board flights are waiting inside the domestic terminal for weather conditions to improve.
Hundreds of passengers travelling with domestic airlines such as Buddha Air, Yeti Airlines, and Shree Airlines have been affected.
Although weather conditions at Tribhuvan International Airport are normal, flights have been unable to depart as weather remains unfavourable at these outlying airports.
Meanwhile, police had planned to take Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane to Bhairahawa. However, due to adverse weather at Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa, flights could not operate and he was instead flown to Bharatpur in Chitwan.
Dense fog in the Tarai region has reduced visibility, disrupting flight operations and landings, affecting hundreds of passengers.
