Government reports Rs 84 billion loss from Gen Z Movement

Damage worth a total of Rs 84.45 billion has been recorded in the government and private sectors during the Gen Z Movement that took place on September 8 and 9.

The National Planning Commission presented the damage assessment from the Gen Z Movement at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting. According to the report, the government/public sector suffered losses amounting to Rs 44.93 billion.

Similarly, the government’s study shows that the private sector incurred losses worth Rs 33.54 billion. The commission’s report also notes additional damage in the community sector.

On Thursday’s Cabinet meeting, the commission’s secretary, Rabi Lal Panth, presented the report. The government had formed a committee under the leadership of the commission to conduct the study and prepare a reconstruction plan.

The committee submitted its report within 75 days.

According to the committee, all seven provinces recorded damage during the Jenzi Movement. A total of 54 districts and 262 local units were affected.

The report states that 77 people lost their lives, 20 on September 8, 37 on September 9, and 20 in the days that followed.

Of the 2,429 people injured, 17 are under the age of 13. The report mentions that 1,433 injured individuals were between 13 and 28 years old.

Overall physical damage has been assessed at Rs 84.45 billion, affecting 2,168 institutions. A total of 2,671 buildings were damaged, with losses valued at Rs 39.31 billion.

Likewise, 12,659 vehicles were damaged, causing losses worth Rs 12.93 billion.

Government/public sector losses amount to Rs 44.93 billion.

The private sector damage is valued at Rs 33.54 billion, while the community and other sectors suffered losses worth Rs 5.97 billion.

Among government losses, 68% falls under the federal government, while the provinces and local levels account for 10% and 22%, respectively.

The committee has also submitted a reconstruction action plan. It estimates that Rs 36.30 billion will be required for reconstruction efforts.
