Kathmandu, May 11
The government has directed schools and colleges to cancel seasonal holidays that they would give to students during summers and monsoons from now onwards.
The directive follows a recent government decision to adopt the two-day weekend provision, according to which Saturdays and Sundays will be off days.
Education Ministry spokesperson Deepak Sharma says seasonal holidays, as well as other local holidays, will be cancelled to meet the required number of teaching hours.
“Besides the weekends, they can give up to 30 holidays in a year from now onwards,” Sharma says.
Sharma says concerned local governments should ensure the implementation of this provision at schools whereas the University Grant Commission and the Council for the Technical Education and Vocational Training should take the lead for colleges.
