Huawei MateBook 14: Exciting features require you to pay a big price

Huawei MateBook 14 has been recently launched in Nepal. Call mobility Pvt Ltd, the authorised distributor of Huawei products in Nepal, has officially launched the laptop in the Nepali market. Along with MateBook 14, the company also announced the launch of the Huawei MateBook D15. Not long ago, it also released Huawei Watch GT 3.

The new line of Huawei laptops offers exciting features to the users like a 2K display, slim and sleek metal body, 56Wh battery with 65W USB-C power adaptor, 100% sRGB colour gamut, 90% screen-to-body ratio and many more. All these fantastic features come with a hefty price tag though.

Design and display

Huawei MateBook 14 has a slim metal body with a plain design. Nothing fancy is seen on the laptop whereas the outer lid of the laptop has Huawei branding. On the right side of the laptop, there are two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports whereas, on the left side, there is a USB-C (DisplayPort), a 3.5mm audio jack, and an HDMI port. The laptop also features a fingerprint sensor on the power button.

The laptop weighs lightly at 1.49 kg and is 15.9mm thin.

Huawei MateBook 14 features a 14″ IPS panel with a resolution of 2,160 x 1,440 pixels with narrow bezels. The screen-to-body ratio on this laptop is a whopping 90% and also the display has a taller 3:2 aspect ratio instead of the traditional 16:9 aspect ratio. The display even has 100% sRGB coverage with TÜV Rheinland low blue light certification and DC dimming flicker-free for lowering stress on your eyes during long use. The screen also supports a 10-point multi-touch feature allowing for effortless operations, such as one-finger swipe-based web browsing and two-finger picture zooming.

Huawei MateBook 14 runs on Windows 10 Home and is powered by the 11th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-1135G7 Processor. This is a quad-core CPU with eight threads and a maximum turbo frequency of 4.2 GHz. For cooling, there is a Huawei Shark fins and dual heat pipes on the laptop. Meanwhile, the graphics on the laptop is Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics.

As for the memory, the base variant of Huawei MateBook 14 features an 8GB LPDDR4 RAM coupled with 512 GB NVMe PCIe SSD storage. There is a 16GB RAM option available as well.

Battery and other features

Huawei MateBook 14 features a 56 Wh Lithium polymer battery that can provide battery power for up to 14 hours. Charging the laptop’s battery is a powerful 65W fast charger that can charge the laptop from 0 to 46% in just half an hour. The charger is also compatible with any device using the USB Type-C cable.

Other features on the camera include a recessed camera, the camera is positioned in a button at the top of the keyboard and only comes out when the user presses it. There is also a dual machine mode on the laptop; the user can access more power from the laptop when they are working on heavy-duty work. The user needs to press Fn+P and the laptop will be switched to the performance mode. The user can get back to the standard mode by pressing the same button again.

However, the use of this mode will provide an instant boost to CPU and GPU performance, which may result in louder fan noise and higher surface temperatures.

As for the audio, Huawei MateBook 14 features Quad digital microphones and two speakers.

The price of Huawei MateBook 14 is Rs 148,990.
