Three persons have died when landslides buried them at Chaukhutte, Khar, Naugad rural municipality-3 of the Darchula district in Sudurpaschim on Thursday.

Two of the victims are members of the same family. DSP Manohar Bhatta, the chief of the District Police Office, says 72-year-old Geuli Thagunna and his three-month-old granddaughter Manjari died when the landslide buried their house.

In the same neighbourhood, Laxman Sitauli (29) died while she was buried by another landslide while heading towards a local mill.

Haramati Thagunna (16) has sustained minor injuries.

Meanwhile, a flood in the Kharkhola stream washed away structures built for the 32-megawatt Kharkhola Second Micro-hydropower Project.

SP Bhatta says the flood also swept away a suspension bridge, three under-construction RCC bridges and three water sources.

Police say efforts are underway to rescue some locals buried in the landslides.
