The District Court of Kanchanpur on Sunday ordered that former SSP Dilli Raj Bista be released on the bail of Rs 1.05 million.
Bista, who was the chief of District Police Office, when the 13-year-old Nirmala Pant was raped and murdered in July last year was fired from the job after he was found to be involved in destroying the evidence of the case last year. Likewise, he was also accused of torturing the suspects.
The court heard the case till Friday last week and issued the verdict today, according to court official Hari Krishna Awasthi.
He informs that the court sought Rs 400,000 bail on the charge of destroying the evidence and Rs 600,000 on the charge of inflicting torture on the suspects.
Bista had surrendered to the court on Tuesday last week.
Six other police personnel, arrested in connection with the case, were released on bail earlier.
