The United Democratic Madheshi Front (Madheshi Morcha) said on Monday that holding talks with the KP Oli-led ruling coalition is an exercise in futility.

This remark comes a day after coordinator of the government talks team, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa, wrote to the UDMF, inviting it for talks on its demands.

Responding to the invite, UDMF leaders said talks are not possible in the present context.

Upendra Yadav, president of the Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, noted: Our demands have remained unfulfilled even after 36 rounds of talks. So, this invite is nothing but a publicity stunt.

“And why talk to a government is not trustworthy?” he wanted to know.

The government knows about our agendas, but it is not serious about addressing them, Yadav alleged.

Yadav, who is also coordinator of the Federal Alliance, questioned: Is the government ready to rewrite the constitution?

Laxman Lal Karna, leader of the Sadbhavana Party, also said talks are not possible in a situation like this.

Karna claimed that the UDMF will be ready to be a part of the political committee only if Prachanda, Sher Bahadur Deuba and KP Oli (all of them) come on board.
