The UCPN-Maoist has decided to form a national consensus government under party Chair Prachanda. The party has appealed the current ruling coalition partner CPN-UML, the Nepali Congress and the RPP-Nepal, among others, to join the new government.
The party made this appeal at the end of a meeting of Maoist office-bearers held at Prachanda’s official residence in Lazimpat.
“We had supported the KP Oli government, putting national independence, constitution implementationm the peace process and post-quake reconstruction at the centre,” UCPN-Maoist Vice-chair Narayan Kaji Shrestha told Onlinekhabar at the end of the meeting. “We tried to draw the government’s attention towards these priorities time and again, to no avail,” Shrestha said.
Shrestha told Onlinekhabar: The UCPN-Maoist meeting decided to form a national unity government under Prachanda and appeal all parties to join the dispensation.
According to Shrestha, the Nepali Congress had proposed forming a national unity government under Prachanda.
After the meeting, Maoist Secretary Barshaman Pun said they have already held talks with RPP-Nepal, CPN-UML and Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal for the formation of a unity government. He said they are ‘moving ahead’ to form a unity government as per the Nepali Congress’ wish.
Meanwhile, UCPN-Maoist Chair Prachanda plans to visit quake-ravaged villages of Gorkha district on Wednesday after calling on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Prachanda will visit Barpak and other quake-ravaged villages of Gorkha, including Gumda, Laprak, Muchok. He will lay the foundation stone for the construction of physical infrastructure. As per an earlier schedule, Prachanda was to provide relief to quake victims in Gumda at 10 am and lay the stone for a drinking water project in Laprak at 11 am. But he was busy in the party office bearers’ meeting till 10 am.
