Kathmandu, February 1

India’s U-19 cricket team have defeated Nepal by seven wickets in their final group stage match in the ongoing U-19 World Cup.

* India won the toss, chose to field

* Nepal posted 169/8 in 48 overs (reduced due to delayed start)

* India achieved the target in 18.1 overs, losing three wickets

* Both India and Nepal have already booked their place in quarterfinals

Nepal never looked to threaten the Indian side during the entire match. Nepal’s opening batsman Sunil Dhamala was out without troubling the score in the first over of the Nepali innings. Yogendra Karki, who replaced Dhamala at the crease, could only muster seven runs. Skipper Raju Rijal, who had so far been the mainstay of Nepal’s batting lineup in the tournament, also got out after making six runs. Opener Sandeep Sunar looked threatening, but he too got out after making 37 runs. Vice-captain Arif Sheikh chipped with 26 runs to guide Nepal to a respectable score.

When the Indian side started batting, they seemed to be in a hurry to finish the match. It took them just 18.1 overs to finish the match with a resounding victory.

Nepal and India have already booked their place in the quaterfinals of the tournament being played in Bangladesh.
