Rainfall, snowfall likely in several parts of Nepal

Kathmandu, January 19

Equip yourself with suitable gears and warm clothes if we are venturing out, for there’s possibility of snowfall and rainfall in several parts of the country.

According to weather expert Samir Shrestha, the weather system evolving in India is having an effect in Nepal that is likely to cause snowfall and rainfall.

The change in weather conditions has affected flights to and from the Tribhuvan International Airport. Poor visibility has many small and big airplanes grounded.

For small planes, visibility should be at least 1,500 metres, while for large planes, it should be 3,000 metres at least.

As of 9.30 am, visibility was 2,000 metres, but that has decreased to 1,000 metres now, Shrestha told Onlinekhabar. With fog covering the TIA, no flight has landed so far today.

The weather is expected to improve after 12.00 in the daytime, Shrestha said.

This weather condition is due to mixup of wind blowing from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal.

A shortage of essentials like fuel, resulting from the Indian blockade and the Madhesh movement, has put lives at increased risk in a country that suffered a huge loss of lives and infrastructure in April 25 and May 12 mega earthquakes.
