Kathmandu, August 15
More than 67,000 Nepali migrant workers have received re-exit labour permits from relevant government offices outside Kathmandu during the last fiscal.
The government, in December last year, announced that migrant workers will not have to come to Kathmandu to renew for their permits. Following the announcement, labour officials started distributing such permits from provincial offices. According to prevailing laws, Nepali migrant workers have to renew their permits every year.
Labour department Director-General Bhisma Kumar Bhusal said that the number of people coming to the department’s office in Kathmandu has declined considerably after the development. He said, “Now, migrant workers can come to Kathmandu just in time for their flight; they need not come here to renew their permits.”
The government started issuing re-exit permits from Janakpur, Biratnagar, and Butwal. Surkhet and Dhangadhi were later added to the list. According to the department, 67, 384 Nepalis recieved thier permits from these offices in 2018/19.
