As four and half years have passed since the 2015 April earthquake, only 62 per cent of the affected families completed reconstructing their houses, says the National Reconstruction Authority.

The authority’s chief executive officer Sushil Gyewali says the other 24 per cent houses are under construction.

Speaking at a meeting of the Development and Technology Committee in the House of Representatives on Friday, Gyewali said 479,545 houses have been reconstructed whereas 189,141 are under construction.

The authority has signed grant agreements with 776,427 families for the house reconstruction grant. Of them, 99 per cent received the first tranche, 80 per cent the second and 67 per cent received the third tranche, according to him. The government gives Rs 500,000 to each family, by dividing it into three tranches (Rs 50,000, Rs 150,000, and Rs 300,000 respectively).

Meanwhile, 71 per cent affected schools completed the reconstruction and 24 per cent are under construction. Among the health facilities, only 58 per cent completed reconstruction and the process is underway at 14 per cent others.
