A five-year-old girl has successfully undergone a liver transplant at KIST Teaching Hospital in Lalitpur. The hospital said the girl underwent surgery on August 18. Her 33-year-old mother donated part of her liver to her daughter.
According to the hospital, the girl was brought to the hospital after her health condition became critical due to Wilson’s disease. Wilson’s disease is a rare genetic disorder caused by the accumulation of copper in the body.
The liver transplant was performed after specialist doctors stabilised her condition through coordinated treatment, intensive care and continuous monitoring for about a month.
The hospital said the girl’s mother, the liver donor, had been discharged a few days earlier, while the girl was discharged today.
