Biratnagar, October 18
Five persons died and three others sustained injuries, critically, in a road accident in Katari of Udayapur district in eastern Nepal on Saturday night.
A Scorpio SUV (Ba 20 Cha 7171) heading towards Okhaldhunga from Bhairahawa crashed at Bhadaure, Katari municipality-14 last night, informs Province 1 Traffic Police Office Chief, SP Sanjeev Sharma Das. The vehicle fell around 100 metres down the road.
Two of the victims have been identified as Ram Bahadur Sarki (30) and Karna Bahadur Sarki (26) from Manebhanjyang-9 of Okhaldhunga whereas three others are yet to be identified. Of the unidentified, two are men and one is a woman, all appearing to be in their 30s.
Three injured–Kumari Sarki (28) and Kalpana Sarki (22) from Manebhanjyang-9 and Pawan Khadka (28) from Madhubaliya-4 of Rupandehi are undergoing treatment at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan. Khadka was driving the vehicle when the accident occurred.
Traffic police suspect a brake failure led to the accident. But, further investigation is underway.
