450 Nepalis waiting in Dharchula to enter Darchula

Nepalis stranded in Dharchula of India during the lockdown, in March 2020.

Kathmandu, March 30

Over 450 Nepalis have been stranded in Dharchula, a town in Uttarakhand of India, as the Nepal-India border has remained closed owing to the nationwide lockdown imposed to control the coronavirus outbreak.

It has been learned that the Nepalis working in various places of the state were returning home after the Indian government also imposed the lockdown. However, they have been denied entrance in Nepal owing to the the lockdown.

Darchula’s Chief District Officer Yadu Nath Paudel says most of the stranded are residents of neighbouring Baitadi and Bajhang districts. He says the district authority has been unable to let them enter the country as there are not sufficient quarantine facilities.

Paudel says he has called a meeting among various stakeholders in the district to solve the issue.
