(Updated) Karnali boat capsize: 1 killed, 3 missing and 1 injured

Local police say one of the people missing since a boat capsize in the Karnali river this morning has been found dead. Three others are still missing whereas two are injured.

The victim has been identified as Dhansari Salami (22), a resident of Mohanyal-3 in the Kailali district, informs Rajendra Bahadur Kumal, the chief of the Sungarkhal Area Police Office in the district.

He says the search for others is underway.

3 missing, 2 injured as boat capsizes in Karnali

Kathmandu, August 1

Three persons are missing while two others sustained injuries as a boat capsized in the Karnali river bordering Surkhet and Kailali districts in western Nepal, on Sunday morning.

The missing have been identified as Parvati Thapa (20), Urmila Salami Magar (20) and her 10-day-old son from Mohanyal rural municipality-3 of the Kailali district. Police say they had used the board to cross the mighty river to come to Chaukune rural municipality-4 of the Surkhet district.

There were 10 people on the boat and five are rescued safely. Two others, identified as Dhansara Salami Magar (19) and her one-month-old son Karna, from Mohanyal-3, have sustained injuries. The mother is said to be critical.

Police have mobilised search teams from both sides of the river.
