16 Covid-19 patients kept at Birgunj school as hospital is occupied

Narayani Sub-regional Hospital is the only government hospital in Birgunj. However, it is under-equipped, complain locals.

Birgunj, May 14

Health officials in Parsa, the district with the highest number of Covid-19 patients in the country, have kept 16 Covid-19 patients at a school as the Narayani Hospital, designated to treat the Covid-19 cases, has remained occupied with the flow of the patients almost every day.

The district’s Assistant Chief District Officer Lalit Kumar Basnet says a ‘semi-isolation ward’ has been prepared at local Siddhartha Secondary School to treat the patients there.

Currently, the hospital has admitted 70 patients.

For want of sufficient beds in the hospital, over a dozen patients were forced to stay at home for around 24 hours after the confirmation of infection. Following that, a meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee on Wednesday afternoon had decided to prepare a 200-bed semi-isolation ward at the school.
