Senior officials ‘sad’ as Cabinet picks DPM’s relative for DIG

Kathmandu, May 9

Some senior officials of Nepal Police have objected to the promotion of SSP Bishwa Raj Pokharel to the vacant position of DIG, citing he was junior to some officials who are still working as SSP.

A Cabinet meeting held last week had decided to promote Pokharel.

The dissatisfied officials have claimed that Pokharel was promoted under political pressure. He is a relative of Deputy Prime Minister Ishwar Pokharel.

The officials say such a decision would break the organisation’s chain of command.

Sources inform that Ganesh Bahadur Air, Basanta Kumar Panta, Ishwar Babu Karki, Ram Kripal Sah, Prakash Adhikari, Shekhar Koirala and Birendra Kumar Basyal among other SSPs had joined the police force as inspectors 11 months before Pokharel.

The officials highlight that Pokharel had violated discipline of the organisation earlier by refusing to accept the transfer to Nepal’s Embassy in New Delhi.
