Province 2 lawmakers want Rs 2 million each for constituency development

Province 2 Assembly, Janakpurdham

Janakpurdham, May 16

Lawmakers of Province 2 have demanded that each of them be allowed to spend as much as Rs 20 million every year for various infrastructure development projects in their constituency.

The lawmakers obstructed the meeting on Wednesday demanding the fund. The provincial government agreed to provide Rs 10 million to each, and the lawmakers agreed to lift the obstruction.

But, as soon as the meeting began, they demanded that the fund amount be doubled.

“The government failed to spend even 10 per cent of the development budget till now,” Nepal Communist Party lawmaker Sundar Bahadur Bishwakarma said during the meeting, “Therefore, let’s provide Rs 20 million to each of the lawmakers so that it would be spent.”

Some stakeholders, however, have objected to the demand claiming such programmes would not have any specific monitoring mechanism.
