Protesting govt doctors not to treat patients except at emergency wards

Government doctors stage a protest in Kathmandu, on Monday, February 11, 2019.

Kathmandu, February 25

Government doctors, who are protesting the new civil servant adjustment rule, has announced a new protest programme on Monday.

According to the plan, the members of Government Doctors’ Association Nepal (GoDAN) will not attend to the patients at any ward except emergency ones from Wednesday.

The doctors have been protesting the rule, demanding they be retained under the federal civil service.

GoDAN President Dr Dipendra Pandey says the organisation has served a 72 hour ultimatum to the government to meet its demand.

Earlier today, leaders of the organisation held talks with Minister of State for Health and Population, Surendra Yadav, which ended inconclusively.

Pandey says Minister Yadav agreed to the demand, but could not answer how the government could address it.

He maintains that the two sides will sit on the talks table again.
