Police seek life imprisonment for Alam; attorneys to file case today

The Rautahat District Police has recommended that the District Court hand down the Nepali Congress leader and suspended lawmaker Mohammad Aftab Alam life imprisonment. Following the recommendation, the District Government Attorney’s Office is filing a case against Alam with the same demand today.

Police had submitted the 800-page investigation report about the case to the District Attorney’s Office recently. In the report, police have also recommended that the court confiscate all the properties belonging to Alam.

Alam was arrested on October 13 for his alleged involvement in a bomb blast in Rajpur in the district in April 2008. According to statements of eyewitnesses, about two dozen people were injured in the explosion. Alam also faces the charges of burning the injured alive in a brick kiln.
