Police interfere in Bibeksheel Nepali’s Baluwatar protest, detain few leaders

Kathmandu, April 17

Police on Wednesday interfered in a demonstration launched by Bibeksheel Nepali party in front of the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar of Kathmandu.

In the course, the law enforcers detained some of the leaders of the party, citing demonstrations were prohibited in the site.

The party leaders and cadres had gathered in front of the PM house expressing their concerns over recent media reports that the government land adjacent to the Prime Minister’s residence, also known as Lalita Niwas, was sold to different individuals. Media have dragged ruling Nepal Communist Party General Secretary Bishnu Paudel also into the case.

In its symbolic bid to reassert the national ownership of the land, the demonstrators had tried to erect the national flag there.
